Fairy - Children's Room Art

I created this a few days ago. My daughter's room was in need of colour. Since we have moved, it has taken 4 months to buy furniture and decorate. The walls will eventually be decorated, maybe apple green, since her furniture is pink and yellow, very cool. So this painting really goes with the colour combination. I was trawling through the web looking for inspiration and came across a lady named Liz Murphy. I like her sensative painting style but she also does bold work too. Anyway, this is my little creation which Melissa loves.

I used everything you could imagine in this painting. I glued yellow flowers on it, used glitter, acrylics to paint. I had to mix a lot of my paints to get the desired colours. A tactile painting which I have no doubt all the flowers will be pulled off in no time soon!

I will post a better picture later, as you can see it is hanging on the wall but I took it late at night.

Red Shoe - Collage

I am not a big fan of collage but I did this at art class. The whole thing is coloured tissue paper with acrylic paint added here and there. Not my favourite but the more I look at it the more I like it. My eldest daughter likes it so maybe I will frame it and put it in her room.

Minature Pear

My favourite pear, I really like the texture, the acrylic paint quality was nice and thick so I think I will purchase some of this to make more textured paintings. I love the colour use. You can also view my art work at http://stepmatthews.deviantart.com/gallery/ you can buy prints if anything takes your fancy.

Minature Pears

In the recent art class we had to try differnt painting techniques this one being dry brushing. I like the texture.

Barlaston Hall

Barlaston Hall - Staffordshire, UK

A quirky painting of Barlaston Hall. I like the rich colours and the wobbly shape. I was trying out the same style as the Gladstone Pottery Museum.

Gladstone Pottery Museum

Gladstone Pottery Museum, Longton, Stoke on Trent.

This is a painting of Gladstone Pottery Museum in Stoke on Trent painted with acrylics on canvas that I did, not too long ago. Imagine it without the people (the image has changed since I painted it). A colleague of mine who is now a full time artist, Laura Zerebski does the most brilliant, vibrant of paintings of places in British Columbia. I thought I would try and produce something similar but in my style of painting. I also wanted to practice and copy other painters since this is the best way to learn and develop your own style.

My Old Tree

Gnarly Tree - Arundel Lane

The first tree I did since moving to Canada. This was an old tree outside our house sitting in our front garden. This is oil on canvas, did not really use oils much before this. I love the autumn colours and use the background florishing trees for the colour.

Jurassic Forest

I like this latest piece it was very easy to do, surprisingly. I painted this in art class. One of the students in class said it had a Jurassic look about it, hence the title. We all did the same scene but very surpising what results we all came out with, mine was nicknamed 'Jurassic Park'. I used a variety of colours, staring with five lines drawn on canvas to make the horizon and the trees then the sky was painted and the trees, which was the most fun since there is a lot of background colour with texture (you can see the red popping through) and the finishing touches of shrubs etc. All done with acrylics.
